Coastal management and monitoring

We support government and the blue economy with metocean, coastal and water quality data collection, numerical modelling and our understanding of coastal processes and coastal communities.

We use observations, high-end oceanographic sensors and advanced numerical modelling software to describe site conditions or assess historic or future change. We are not shy of developing our own tools, customised to your project.

Our team have delivered multi-million-dollar monitoring programs, completed amenity focussed studies of surf breaks, and guided many councils through their coastal management process, from coastal and estuarine processes and hazard studies, asset risk assessments, development of management options, to cost-benefit analyses and stakeholder engagement. Being part of the coastal community, we understand the stakeholder’s needs.

Coastal engineering design and investigations

When our much-loved coastal environments require intervention, design solutions must strike the right balance. We use our broad experience and understanding of coastal structures to assist our clients in deciding on the most feasible and cost-effective solutions.

Bluecoast’s engineers can develop feasible solutions into well-defined concept design options. For the most complex challenges we adopt a multiple-lines-of-evidence approach to design investigations. We incorporate site data and analysis, numerical modelling, physical modelling and input from civil and marine construction contractors to ensure stakeholder’s performance requirements can be achieved.

The Bluecoast team have experience in the design of coastal structures including: seawalls, revetments, groynes, breakwaters and artificial reefs as well as non-structural application such as dredging, beach nourishment and operational management solutions. Following selection of a preferred design, Bluecoast offer detailed design and documentation services, construction quality assurance and post-project monitoring.

Climate change adaptation

Climate change is not a phenomenon of the future. The earth has warmed, and seas are rising. Ongoing change is unavoidable with coastal and island communities the most vulnerable. With the writing on the wall Bluecoast want to make the best use of our unique skills to increase the resilience of our coasts and the blue economy.

Using of knowledge in coastal sciences and engineering our team can deliver climate change risks and vulnerability assessments, plans for sustainable and adaptive management of coastal assets and the design of climate change adaptation projects.

Our engineers have worked across some of the most vulnerable Pacific and Indian Ocean coasts. We appreciate the fundamental differences in the coastlines, the infrastructure, the communities and strive to preserve a vibrant life on the coast in a changing climate.
